The Ramnode trial is over. We have been testing the Std KVM SSD 1GB plan for the past 3 weeks. The performances of this VM were best of class. In fact during the past 2 weeks it served pages in 39ms on average, that's on par with EC2 t2-small, which was the fastest so far.
That's not to say everything was smooth. The setup was unnecessarily painful:
Two days after the beginning of the trial, there was a 30 minutes outage. We were notified about it through an email that described the problem as a "hard lockup". On the bright side, after the reboot the average response time went down 40% and the faster response time held up ever since.
Next up is a trial with Vultr, this will be our first experiment with this provider.
