First Vpsdime setup

Last updated on

We've setup the Application on Vpsdime for the first time this week. The offer is appealing with 6GB of memory for just $7 per month. They use OpenVZ to host the VMs, that's supposed to be fast but may not isolate each guest from all others as well as KVM or Xen solutions.

It took 30 minutes between the moment the VM was ordered and paid and the time it was up, running and we could log into it, that's far slower than competitors. Once it's running, everything goes smoothly but packages and ruby gems installation was a bit slow. That's a sign the 4 CPU cores they give you are not the fastest taken separately, there's probably a lot of sharing going on here.
